Take Me Out To The Ballgame (At Yankee Stadium…)
Sunday, March 30th, 2008
Yankee stadium located in the borough of the Bronx in New York City has long been considered one of the most famous ball parks in the entire world. Home of the New York Yankees, a team which has won more World Series Championships than any other team, will be replaced by a new stadium in 2009.
The existing structure seats 57,545 and has been open since 1923. It was nicknamed “The House That Ruth Built” after baseball legend, Babe Ruth. The once recognizable “facade” which looked like a white fence around the roof of the upper deck, was removed in the mid-seventies. But still remaining is the 138 foot “Big Bat” outside of the main entrance and Monument Park, which displays monuments and plagues dedicated to past players and events.
Some of the great Yankees that have played in the Stadium include Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris, Whitey Ford, and Yogi Berra, just to mention a few.
If you enjoy the looks, sounds and smells of a classic ball park, head over to East 161st Street and River Avenue before this monument to baseball is closed for ever. If you are into the newer stadiums, the new Yankee Stadium will be right across the street and is set to open in 2009. Either one is a New York attraction, you don’t want to miss. So, take me out to the ballgame…
