Iao Valley Maui Hawaii
For history buffs, Iao Valley also is the site of one of the most important battles in all of Hawaii’s history, the 1790 Battle of Kepaniwai. Maui’s Iao Valley is where King Kamehameha fought with native Maui residents in order to unite the Hawaiian Islands into one confederacy. Kamehameha won and Maui became part of hawaii!
Haleakala Crater is 10,000 feet above sea level and as stark a contrast to Iao Valley as can be. It’s hard to believe they’re both located in Maui, Hawaii! The largest dormant volcano in the world, Haleakala Crater is a sleek, smooth, and completely green-free site in Maui.
Ride a bike, drive a car, or just walk along the paths to Haleakala Crater. It takes some time to get to Haleakala Crater, but it is a must-see in Maui, Hawaii. Go alone or with a tour group, taking refuge in a few rest stops along the way. The sunrise looks especially breathtaking at Haleakala Crater!
